Student Council was proud to once again head up and host the Great Canned Food Drive. Class officers worked tirelessly getting donations from around the community to provide canned goods and necessities to the needy in our area. Donations went to such worthy causes as Shelbyville Community Soup Kitchen, who provide over 170 meals a week, and Good Samaritan food bank. Dog food and pet items were donated to New Destiny Dog Rescue and the local shelters that are committed to taking care of animals in our county. Baby items were also donated to a local organization for mothers in need. This year's theme was SCHS Can Fight Hunger and featured super heroes. The floor display was of the Avengers logo, surrounded by the logos for Captain America, the Fantastic Four, Black Widow, and the X-Men. We are proud to announce that over 19000 items were collected to fight hunger in our community. Student Council and the Boys' Soccer team moved and sorted over 19000 items for delivery to the different non-profits in our town. SCHS Student Council would like to thank all the community members and businesses that participated in the food drive to provide for those in need in our county.

In November, Student Council was proud to be a part of High Five Friday in greeting students coming to school at the end of the week. Stu Co is happy to be involved in the event that was the brain child of NHS. In conjunction with the Bedford County Boys and Girls Club, Student Council sponsored four cars for the event. Around a hundred trick or treaters came through and the rain held off just long enough that everyone was able to have a fun time. Our November student of the month was Jordan Thompson, a freshman who has truly understood what Student Council is about by showing an enthusiastic attitude about all activities.
Leadership students were given the opportunity with the appreciated support of Kincaid's to attend the Friends of the Library luncheon featuring author June Hall McCash. Students were treated to a lunch and information about being a historical fiction author by Mrs. McCash. We'd also like to congratulate our outstanding Stu Co member for October, Lindy DeOsio. Lindy is a long time member of Stu Co and has been responsible for participating in every activity in the past two months in some capacity.
SCHS Stu Co got to participate in cheering on the runners for the Police Benevolent Society Fun Run again this year after a year off. Council members had pom poms and cowbells and showed up bright and early to encourage the runners. One of SCHS's own was in the run, so students got to cheer extra hard.
SCHS has had another successful homecoming, this one looking more like ones from years past. The theme was Olympics and teachers participated in a door decoration contest, students had dress up days and there was a pep rally, parade and relays on Friday. The dress up days were shortened since there was flooding this week leading to school closing, but there was good participation on Team Day, Rep Your Country Day, and Class Color Day respectively. The pep rally involved the Powderpuff Cheerleaders, celebration of the sports teams, and relays where classes competed in tug-o-war and fun races. The parade went to Harris Middle and Learning Way and represented various sports and clubs from SCHS along with the Homecoming Attendants. The night was capped with Stephanie Ahearn being crowned Homecoming Queen.
Student Council got to help with clean up for the American Mule and Bluegrass Festival. The festival contributes to several worthy charities in the area and Student Council was helping the Boy's and Girl's Club. Members picked up trash and cleaned the folding seats in the Calsonic arena. The big hit of the morning was getting to play with the petting zoo that is featured at the festival. Shelbyville Central High School appreciates their hard working fire and police men and women. Today several junior and senior Student Council representatives took over Krispy Kreme donuts for our hard working public servants. The donuts were provided by SCHS. Today we welcomed the upcoming freshmen to our school by having a big rally for them. Some student council members helped renaissance throw this rally for the new freshmen. They introduced all the freshmen sponsors, all the principles, and the SRO's. Mr. McCullough performed a rap song by Vanilla Ice and Officer Cook entertained the crowd by dancing in front of all the new freshmen. We welcome the new freshmen to SCHS.
Today we had a celebration for the teachers where student council brought in cupcakes and fruit. The theme for the teacher luncheon was the Olympics and the teachers competed in lots of contests. Spanish club helped serve the taco bar for everyone to enjoy. We hope the teachers have a good year.
