This year we had many students attend the Middle Tennessee Association of Student Councils at Siegel Middle School. We encourage Student Council members to attend this conference to learn how to better our school and promote school spirit.
Senior Student Council members and Senior Class volunteers working hard creating the famous Tennessee Tri-Star. The 2018 Great Canned Food Drive was a huge success. Student Council chose the theme, "Ending Hunger is Our Tradition" for this year's Great Canned Food Drive. They chose this theme because it related to their over-all student council theme, "Leadership is a Tradition". They chose to use many characteristics that describe Tennessee in their display. As seen on the bottom left corner, they used the Tennessee state flower, a purple Iris. They also used a Tennessee Walking horse as another symbol because it brings a little bit of "home" into their creation. Then the bottom left corner shows a guitar in honor of our state Capital, Nashville. Lastly they used the Tennessee flag colors and Tri-Star in the shape of the great state, Tennessee.
Over-all we collected approximately 25,000 cans. We donated cans to Good Samaritan, The Loft Soup Kitchen, First Methodist Church, First Baptist Church, New Destiny Dog Rescue, and First Choice Pregnancy Center. Student Council is beyond thankful for all of the students and teachers who brought in canned food items, the volunteers who helped count the cans every morning, and the students and volunteers who helped move and deliver canned food items. This Halloween, Student Council volunteered to be a part of Trick or Treat on the square. This event is held each year and encourages local businesses, located on the square, to hand out candy to many of Shelbyville's youth. In addition, Student Council sponsored its own candy station and partnered with businesses such as Northcutt Surveying to distribute candy! We had a blast! Chris Hernandez, Evie Winfrey, and Gracie Beth McCullough smiling proudly after judging our Cafeteria's decorated pumpkins. Sarah Shearon and Dona Northcutt standing with this year's pumpkin winner!
This October Student Council volunteered at a local fundraiser for New Destiny Dog Rescue. This is the first year Stu Co has volunteered at this event, and it was a huge success. We look forward to working with New Destiny Dog Rescue more this year! We would like to thank everyone who came out to support this great organization!
Our SCHS Varsity Cheerleaders cheering with our crowd during the homecoming pep rally. They wore purple shirts with the famous Disney castle since our theme was Disney themed! Our SCHS parade was a huge success and everyone had a fantastic time! We loved seeing all of the different themed trucks that the clubs and sports teams used! One of our lunch room activities was called a Pretty Little Princess Pageant. With this activity, we asked all of the senior football players to dress up in a costume. Students would then vote for their favorite boy. At the end of the week during our Pep Rally, the winner was announced! This year our winner was A'lantae Harris! This is some our our relays we did this year. We had lots of participation not only with students, but also with our Homecoming attendants and class officers. We love to see the excitement and competitiveness between the classes.! The Leadership class and Student Council members had a great time making and hanging decorations for our peers to see!
